Mark's Grandad Walks the Pennine Way Fund

I am John, Mark’s Grandad. I am 66years old and a keen hiker and backpacker and I intend to walk the Pennine Way at the end of May 2011
raising funds for Meningitis UK.

The Pennine Way is a 272 mile national trail path starting from the village
of Edale in Derbyshire. Travelling north through the national parks
of The Peak District, Yorkshire Dales and Northumberland finally
finishing at the village of Kirk Yetholm just over the border into
the Scottish Cheviot hills. The whole trail from end to end will take
about 21 days to complete.

The Pennine Way is a trail passing a few small villages and
towns usually a few miles off route. Names like Kinder Scout,
Great Shunner Fell, Tan Hill Inn (the highest pub in England)
Cauldron Snout, Malham Cove are some of the places that
will be passed en route.

I will backpack the whole way, mostly ‘wild camping’ carrying tent,
cooker, sleeping bag and minimum essential items.
Every 3-4 nights will be spent in hostels in order to get clothes washed
and re-charge batteries etc.

I have not undertaken a hike of this length before and to date
training is progressing satisfactorily. With your help and support in
sponsoring me to raise funds for Meningitis UK I will certainly be ready to undertake this task.

In terms of sponsorship, your help will be greatly appreciated Just click on the donate button on this webpage.

On completion of this trek I will write about my adventure along with photos
at this website from middle of July 2011.

Thank you for your sponsorship and support, and if you see me on route
please mention Mark where I will personally thank you and make you a
cup of tea.

Thank you,

John Tanton

Hi Dad, this donation is from Lillian and Henry. They hope you had a good trek.

Love from Gail xx

Hello John! So sorry we didn't bump into you again after Malham. We hope you had a good rest day at Horton and didn't find Thursday and Friday too hot. Made a change, though, didn't it! We came over High Cup on Friday, finishing our walking in Dufton. Now raring to do the final 100 miles or so, perhaps the very beginning of October this year if we can get organised.
All good wishes with the fundraising.
Yours
Anne & Colin (we met you at Old House, Torside and a number of places thereafter!!)
