About us
The problem
Meningitis is a devastating disease. It can come out of nowhere and kill in just four hours. It affects anyone, of any age, at any time. Every week, six people in the UK die from it.
Because meningitis strikes so fast, and the symptoms can be so hard to spot, we know prevention is the only cure. The good news is that since our work began, scientists have developed vaccines for several types of meningitis. But it’s not over yet. There are still meningitis strains out there that are deadly. Until a vaccine is discovered for every type of meningitis, all our lives are at risk.
What we are doing about it
We work relentlessly to stamp out meningitis and save lives. We invest in pioneering research to help find a vaccine for every type of meningitis. We will not stop until we do. And we help people understand the symptoms to look out for, so they can protect themselves and the ones they love. When meningitis strikes, we offer emotional support to help people live with the heartache it leaves behind.

How we work
We work closely with world-leading scientists and meningitis experts to develop new vaccines that save lives. Our approach to research is pioneering and innovative. We help fund projects the NHS can’t – and where big breakthroughs are possible. We also speak out for patients to influence which projects are developed so that the most people benefit. And we make sure people have the information about meningitis that they need, both from us and through the media.
Our approach is working
We are closer than ever to stopping meningitis for good. Thanks to our supporters, we have invested over £6 million in research that has made pioneering breakthroughs in the development of life saving vaccinations. We have saved countless lives by sharing vital information about meningitis. And we’ve helped many people cope with the impact of this terrible disease.
